Mentor Coaching - how does it work?

Mentor Coaching is a fundamental part of training to be a coach, the ICF defines it as “a collaborative process where coaches receive feedback based on observed sessions to refine their skills and style in alignment with the ICF Core Competencies”

During your time on the course you will complete the 10 hours required to complete the course (and accredit as an ACC Coach).

You will do 7 hours group Mentor Coaching spread throughout the modules, students will take it in turns to coach and be coached, before receiving verbal feedback on ICF Competencies from a faculty member. These sessions take place within course hours

After the course finishes, you will need to book your three one-to-one mentor coaching sessions with your Mentor Coach (you’ll get more details about how to do this when you’re on the course). In these sessions you will need to submit/bring a recording of your coaching (this could be with a practice client or a paid client) and then you will receive verbal feedback centred around the ICF Competencies which were observed. After the session you will receive written feedback too.

All Mentor Coaching is included in the price of your Course Fee. Mentor Coaching needs to be spread over a minimum of three months. Most people complete the group sessions and then attend a Mentor Coaching session monthly after the course has finished, some people take a little longer to get started with practice clients and so complete this requirement over a longer period.

From April 2027 we will be launching the new Mentor Coaching process following all updated ICF procedures. We have a number of MCQ qualified coaches in the faculty and are ready to launch the new process when it goes live.
